PETITION FOR GINA TORRES TO PLAY WONDER WOMAN
LET ME JUST SAY
IF YOU DON’T ALREADY THINK THIS WOMAN IS AN AMAZONIAN PRINCESS
YOU ARE DOING IT TOO WRONG FOR WORDS.
Okay, NO I’m sorry this drives me so fucking insane YES this woman is beyond gorgeous and YES she looks fucking fierce and like an amazonian warrior queen but diana IS white/whatever I guess ethnicity amazonian constitute as. Like the character is one race, you can’t just change the race. If Sam Wilson or Nick Fuckin’ Fury or somebody was played by a white guy people would riot in the streets (as in justified) because that’s fucking whitewashing and it’s not cool because the character is a CERTAIN RACE, and it’s one thing taking creative liberties and it’s another to change the characters so much it’s not even their story! Like everyone’s mad pissed because Wanda & Pietro’s actors in the new Avengers movie are both white (the maximoffs being 1/2 roma genetically, and raised roma their whole lives - i think that’s the right word pardon me if it’s not) which is kind of a huge “suck my dick” to talented roma actors who would be a) more accurate/true to the story/appease the fans and b) give actors of a different race some work. *sigh* okay, basically what I’m saying is since I’m rambling, you can’t apply racial accuracy to one race and not to another because that’s a double standard and making you part of the media representation issue we’re facing today. Anyway, just stay true to the comics - if you want to make an alternate universe where blahblahthis happens that sounds absolutely awesome, go for it, I’d love it, truly, but don’t change the story to what it’s not, all walks of fiction. Also, just as an add on if a character was racially ambiguous (ex. Katniss in the Hunger Games, and how only white actresses were called for the part) then personally I think it’s everyone’s own interpretation and you then can take artistic liberties. But in a case where the story really is set in stone, no, it’s not your story to alter. For example, with Diana I personally wouldn’t even cast a straight-up caucasian lady probably Greek, or Italian since Diana is a goddess and that makes sense for the storyline.
NO DOUBLE STANDARDS.
